I just discovered Qiqqa and am about to give it a spin. I've been using Zotero very successfully and am reluctant to give it up, if for no other reasons than Qiqqa does not have a native Mac app (I'm running it in Parallels) or a LyX plugin. Still, I see the potential of Qiqqa for helping one USE their references, whereas Zotero and other traditional reference managers leave this all up to the user. But I have a few questions to get started.1. Because importing references into Zotero is so easy, my Zotero library is a 'just-in-case' collection of mostly metadata (1030 MB; 7,112 items). I'm working on a paper now, and only need a small fraction of these for the paper. Activate volume license. While I realize Qiqqa could really help me make better sense of the collection, I don't want to deal with the volume and my limited disk space right now.

So what's the best way to import only a subset of items from Zotero into Qiqqa?2. I make substantial use of the Zotfile plugin for Zotero. It automatically organizes attachments to Zotero references. Using Zotfile, I'm keeping my library of PDF files on my NAS drive at home and attaching to it using WebDAV. So far, the system works really well for me, at home, from my office, on my laptop when traveling, etc. Is there any way to import my metadata into Qiqqa but keep only a single PDF library on the NAS drive?3.

Manually Installing the Zotero Word Processor Plugin. Word for Windows. Word for Mac 2016 and 2019. In Finder, press Cmd-Shift-G and navigate to. If you have a non-English version of Office, you may need to move the Zotero.dot file into the “Word” directory within the equivalent of “Startup” in your language. The correct path.

Related to #2, Zotfile has a feature of adding a suffix ('annotated') to an annotated PDF and keeping a separate copy of the original. As a teacher, keeping a clean copy is often useful. Is there any way to make Qiqqa prefer PDFs with annotations by using them when available and using clean PDFs otherwise?4. No experience trying to run Zotero and Qiqqa, but will address a couple of issues.1. Qiqqa is fairly adamant about physically bringing in the pdf's, renaming them, and keeping them in its own directory structure.

It does not handle any other types of attachments. (Although PDF's themselves can act as containers for other types of files).2. Qiqqa does not actually annotate the pdf's themselves.

Qiqqa keeps its own database of annotations separate from the pdf. Qiqqa can use annotations from the pdf in its annotation database as 'legacy annotations' with commands available to import or forget them.
